Education

There are sometimes complex issues to be considered when educating a child who has had retinoblastoma. However, they can usually be handled successfully with appropriate planning and good communication.

Most children diagnosed with retinoblastoma are of pre-school age. Some may be attending nursery or play groups. However, all of them will be going on to junior school, may changing schools and will make the transition from junior to senior school.

Whatever stage they are at, as a parent, you can help your child to deal with these challenges and the school to adapt to new circumstances. You can make sure that your child is receiving all the necessary resources available to assist them with their education and independent living.

On the left you will find information on many of the issues you may need to consider, depending on the personal circumstances of your child and read about some parents' personal experience on dealing with issues such as bullying.
