Previous Awareness campaigns2006 Campaign The 2006 campaign moved the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust even further into the public eye, this time through the medium of television. Earlier in the year the trust learnt that their application to appear on the BBC Lifeline Appeal programme was successful. This monthly programme offers charities the opportunity to explain their work and appeal for donations from the public. Working closely with the BBC production team, the Trust pulled together the outline and key messages of the feature. Patron William Roache MBE, was invited to host the programme whilst members, Joshua Wilson, Grant Rees and Nancy Butcher all agreed to share their stories. Consultant Mr Harry Wilshaw of Birmingham Children's hospital explained the medical aspects of Retinoblastoma. The programme was aired on Sunday Aug 20th at 5.20pm and repeated on Wed 23rd at 12.15pm. The Appeal was a huge awareness raising exercise for the charity as it also discussed and showed the common symptoms of Retinoblastoma. In addition, it raised additional funds for the charity. If you would like to find out more, please contact our office on 020 7377 5578. 2005 Campaign For the last two years we have concentrated on raising awareness of retinoblastoma amongst health professionals by mailing out our See Red poster. This year, we wanted to raise the awareness of CHECT as a support group and information provider, we have mailed out our 'Join Us' leaflet and 'What is Rb?' leaflet to over 3,600 Ophthalmology departments and clinical directorates around the UK. We hope this campaign will enable us to reach families of children with suspected rb as soon as the referral is made for examination at one of the specialist centres, we may then be able to support families through this very difficult period. The week ended on the 17th September, the date of the Annual Family day, which was a great success! 2004 CampaignIn September 2004, we sent 17,000 copies of our See Red Poster to Health Visitors and Paediatricians, both in the community and hospital based. This poster explains the signs and symptoms of Retinoblastoma and details what checks required are required if these symptoms are detected. The initiative was very well received and requests for additional posters are still coming in to the office. They are being used to help with the identification of Rb and in the training of health professionals. Please email us if you would like copies of this poster, stating how many and whether A3 or A4 size. 2003 Campaign![]() In September of 2003, the Trust sent this poster to over 10,000 GP's surgeries across the UK. We asked them to put the posters on the wall so that staff and patients could easily identify the signs and symptoms of retinoblastoma. If you would like copies of this poster, available in A3 and A4 size, e-mail us at info@chect.org.uk |
