Come and cheer on our marathon runners!

The 2013 Virgin London Marathon is fast approaching and we have been lucky enough to have 14 brave runners who have given blood sweat and tears in training to get fit enough to cross the finish line and raise vital funds for CHECT in the process.

This year we are gathering a team of supporters to cheer on these wonderful people at key stages of the big race on Sunday, April 21. Come and help us cheer them along!

If you’ve never experienced the city come alive on marathon day then come and get into the carnival atmosphere! You won’t be sorry.

We will have flags, banners, T Shirts and bucket loads of cheer for our fabulous runners. It’s a great day out for all the family. Let us know if you're planning to join us and we will bring along a T shirt for you to wear.

The race starts at 9am for the Elite runners and 9.45 am for the masses.

We (Ruth, Julie, Petra and whoever wishes to join them)  will be gathering from 10am along from mile marker 20 and will put up a CHECT "feather style" banner which is about 8ft high which you will be able to see (hopefully) from Westferry DLR station.  When you come out of Westferry station, turn left and head towards the runners, then turn right towards the line of supporters. You can contact us on 07974 348695 (though be warned with many thousands of people it is sometimes difficult to get a mobile signal)

For the runners.

  • If you are a runner and want to look out for us we are going to be a little way after the 20th Mile marker.  We will be standing on the left side of the track just after Ming Street joins with West India Dock Road. See the interactive map for a clearer idea of where this is.  http://www.virginlondonmarathon.com/interactive-map/

  • CHECT staff and the rest of the cheering squad who joins them will be wearing CHECT T shirts, cheering encouragement and will be holding jelly babies for any runner (and supporter) who needs a sugar pick me up.

There are usually some food and drink stands along the route but it might pay to come prepared. You might like to think about bringing refreshments, sun cream or wet weather gear. Towards the end of the race we will be gathering at the Inn the Park restaurant.
